About the Conference

This is not your standard conference! There will be a variety of energizing ways to learn, converse, contribute, and play. You'll have opportunities interact with presenters and with other participants one-on-one, in small group discussions, and in personalized technical assistance sessions. Plus, there will be hands-on training available on technology tools such as blogging, Facebook, and electronic health records.


Conference Vision

It is the intent of the conference co-sponsors to create a CONFERence filled with informed dialogue and stimulating resources that inform, inspire and encourage the best possible services for women with substance use disorders and their families.

As suggested by the conference theme, “Thriving in Changing Times,” the 2010 conference will focus on:

  • What—effective practices and policies to improve outcomes for women
  • How—building capacity to successfully institute effective practices and policies and
  • Why – exploring current trends and strategies for meeting challenges and integrating innovations and research.


Topics and Common Threads

We have identified the following common threads that will be woven throughout the conference:

  • Based in recovery-oriented system of care
  • Acknowledge and address cultural responsiveness and disparities
  • Collaborative and integrated approaches
  • Mix of policy and program applications
  • Address the uniqueness of women across the life span
  • Integrate the principles of gender-responsive, trauma-informed care

Chicago: My Kind of Town

If you have never been to Chicago or just want to experience something new,
please join us for Chicago: My Kind of Town. On Monday evening, July 26, 2010
the Conference Ambassadors are pleased to offer "Chicago: My Kind of Town"
with a variety of Chicago experiences to choose from. Each Ambassador will
host/lead a group of Conference attendees to visit one of their favorite places in
Chicago. Outings include: Navy Pier Boat Rides to include the Architectural Boat
Tour, Restaurants in Greek and China Town, Local Blues and Jazz Clubs, and
much more. Prices and times will vary; sign up on Monday morning in the Foyer.
What better way to tourist Chicago than with your own local ambassador taking
you to one of their favorite places.
